COEUR TERRE: Irresponsible development

If there is anything that will awaken a neighborhood it is the possibility of an additional 20,000+ cars daily driving through your residential neighborhood streets that were designed for far less traffic. The number of cars currently driving through the Indian Meadows neighborhood on a daily basis can be measured in the low hundreds.

The proposed Coeur Terre Developers are planning on making several small existing residential streets thoroughfares for the new development. When you consider that none of these streets have sidewalks, increasing the traffic count 20 fold to a daily average of more than 20,000 vehicles is not just poor planning, it is irresponsible to the citizens of Coeur d’Alene. We should not allow Coeur Terre to alleviate the traffic issues that they themselves are creating by shunting traffic through another neighborhood.

The re-zoning of the 440+ acres comprising the Coeur Terre Development will bring in upward of 20,000 additional people. That is 1/3 the current size of Coeur d’Alene. Think about that for a moment. That is just one development. One. Any opposition is not just a NIMBY reaction but rather a careful consideration of a slow growth mindset that is good for all residents of Coeur d’Alene. Our city is not Seattle or Portland, we don’t even want it to be like Spokane. This is Coeur d’Alene.

Growth and development is a fact of life like death and taxes but purposefully giving away our way of life for the sake of irresponsible development is unacceptable.
