Kootenai Health to open new urgent care clinic

| February 18, 2023 1:00 AM

Kootenai Health will open a new urgent care clinic in North Idaho, in partnership with MultiCare Health System, according to a news release.

Indigo Urgent Care, a Washington-based clinic that offers virtual and in-person urgent care services, will open in May at 2836 N. Ramsey Road in Coeur d’Alene, in the Crossroads shopping center, near WinCo. The clinic will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Kootenai Health has been working for many years to improve access to care in northern Idaho,” said John Weinsheim, executive vice president of Kootenai Clinic, in the release.

“Even with all our good efforts, more is needed. In 2022 alone, Kootenai Urgent Care’s three locations had more than 55,000 patient visits. Given current market challenges, meeting the need for increased access to health care requires an innovative solution.”

The new clinic will treat a range of minor injuries and illnesses, from sore throats and ear infections to small cuts that may require stitches, sprains, minor fractures and more. All Indigo clinics include onsite labs and digital X-ray.

The joint venture is not a move toward a merger or acquisition, the news release said.

“While working collaboratively, both organizations are independent, community-based health care providers,” said the release. “Kootenai Health currently operates three Kootenai Urgent Care locations in Kootenai County and MultiCare has 40 Indigo Urgent Care clinics in Washington state, including seven urgent care clinics in the Spokane region. These locations will continue to serve the community along with the new Indigo.”

Kootenai Health and MultiCare have worked together previously. Last year, Kootenai Health adopted MultiCare’s electronic health record system. The two entities have also worked together on group purchasing efforts and select behavioral health initiatives.
