SCHOOL LEVIES: ‘Future Idahoans need you’

I’m thankful for educators I’ve had as an Idaho kid. I consider Idaho’s teachers extraordinary. I’m also thankful for the support from my community and state where countless people have stepped up to support schools.

As an Idaho educator I’ve been exposed to critics and advocates. I realized those who were fervent supporters entered my room to join me in working with students. It’s been said that those who have a negative perception of schools, have faith in their own school; it’s other schools that raise suspicion. So, being inside schools has value when it comes to advocacy and knowing, firsthand, how valuable our schools are today.

Now, when I have the honor to be in a classroom, I cherish the energy there. It’s invigorating and humbling to see well-supported teachers. Recently, I visited a classroom where the teacher was masterful. This room was filled with learning for all, regardless of abilities. Students moved about the room efficiently, met with other learners, organized materials, shared information and demonstrated they were an important part of the group. Every student deserves this support.

Public schools are the benefactors of a supportive community. If you’ve voted yes for schools consider yourself a hero. Schools need heroes today. And, if you’ve voted yes for schools in the last 60 years in Idaho, you’re my hero. Because of your support I’ve been more successful than I dreamed. Thank you! And, thank you for voting for our schools in March. Future Idahoans, especially, need you.
