SCHOOL CHOICE: No money for colleges

In school choice, the paper quoted Rep. Elaine Price, “Governor’s corporate welfare, college welfare, giving $8,500 to every high school graduate, for what an unelected board deems is in-demand careers.” See any problems here? Who decides what’s in demand?

What is wrong with giving the student free money? Simple, what you do not have to work for, you do not appreciate it as much. It just perpetuates the give me generation, give me what I want because I exist. I loved my first car, because I had to work for it, even though it was a clunker.

Giving any money to the colleges, no way. Why do you think college expenses are so high? Federal student loans started in 1958, under the National Defense Education Act. Think there is any correlation to this and the rise of college tuitions and the rise in their endowments. Ever wonder how much money are in these college endowments? TIAA’s study of U.S. college and university endowments and their affiliated foundations for fiscal year of 2021, the average endowment size reported was $1.1 billion. Harvard claims the largest of $50.9 billion.

The biggest problem here is giving $8,500 to anybody. Let’s put it another way, giving your tax money to anyone. Money you had to work for. Key word here, “work.”

Let’s suppose you decide to honor your country and go into the military or maybe just go into the family business, do you get this money? Sounds like discrimination.
