| February 5, 2023 1:00 AM

Vernon W. Castle, 87, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 1, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Spokane, Wash., to Ralph Mortimer and Caroline (Kuehl) Castle. He graduated from Hunters High School in 1954.

In 1954, Vernon married Janet Crain. They would have celebrated their 69th anniversary March 1. After six years of marriage, their first child, Mark, was born, followed by Denise and Rex. Family was very important to Vernon, and he always had a fun adventure planned. Vernon had a love for the outdoors.

He was a sought-after logger who was skilled in all areas from falling timber, skidding logs, driving truck, and especially loading logs with his crane. He also worked six years for Coeur d’Alene Crane before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman who often caught his limit. But most of all, he enjoyed being on the water in his boat with family, sharing stories. One of his deepest passions was attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports games.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Janet, children Mark (Mary) Castle, Denise (Jeff) Hammrich, Rex (Karen) Castle, six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews that he cherished.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. Vault Interment Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
