SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes in Post Falls

| February 5, 2023 1:00 AM

I am writing to urge a vote of “Yes” on the Post Falls School Levy on March 14.

The district is asking for a replacement levy of $4,995,000 for two years. These dollars are needed to maintain our facilities, pay staff competitive salaries, fund extra-curricular activities and to continue funding KTEC. It contains no significant increases.

The only extra funding ($1,003,551) is for security purposes. I am certain we all understand how necessary this is. I deem our children’s safety worth of our support. It will be used to hire more School Resource Officers, buy and install more cameras, and most of all, allow the district to build secure vestibules or entryways for every school that lacks them. This will greatly help create a controlled access to the building.

Overall, the levy is modest, and meets the real needs of our children for both safety and education. Given the growth in Post Falls, it is not likely that this levy will raise taxes. The district levies for a dollar amount, not a percentage of assessed value. As there has been this growth, there is even a likelihood that the amount we each pay will decrease.

Once again, I urge us all to vote for the levy and our children.
