SCHOOL ELECTIONS: March, August dates used to limit public participation

Schools use off-cycle elections to minimize public participation. School boards know they can’t control elections results in general elections. Off-cycle elections have lower public participation then general elections. Therefore, allowing 100% of school administration, school faculty, school employees, their friends and families to influence election results.

These off-cycle elections cost taxpayers about $60,000 per election. I’m sure you’ve noticed that if the bond or levy fails, they immediately have another off-cycle election and the process repeats until they win.

Thanks to Rep. Joe Alfieri, District 4A and Sen. Chris Trakel for H0058 which, if passed, will eliminate these off-cycle elections and save taxpayers about $1 million. Please contact your representatives and support H0058.
