SCHOOL LEVIES AND BONDS: Vote no

| February 1, 2023 1:00 AM

I was a public school teacher after having spent a career in the USAF as a pilot. As a teacher, I was exposed to the mentality of some of my fellow teachers. Most were diligent and focused. There was however a “growing” percentage that “opted” to see parents as an impediment. Parents wouldn’t/didn’t read to “their kids” enough. Parents — for the most part were not as educated and “understanding” of the tough job that they were attempting. I could tell that “something” was very wrong since I knew that the school/parent “team” was absolutely essential — yet missing.

Turn the clock 22 years ahead, and an alarming sequence has come to fruition. As teachers, we were not plugged into our cultures’ needs and the needs of communities, our kids or their parents. They had become comfortable marching to districts who were very pleased with being “directed” by their unions — not parents’ needs. Not surprisingly, issues like equity versus equality, critical race theory and anti-American sentiment — has been embraced by public schools. Ever worse academic progress is now evident at our public schools as reading and math scores show declines at most every level.

Now, our public schools opt not to discuss this agenda, and you, parents, are left guessing. Districts now continue to “dig for ever more money” from the taxpayer/parents rather than the promotion of academically adequate public schools. Insist upon vastly improved public schools before any additional funding is approved.

Your kids’ futures and that of the nation is now at risk.

A voucher system reduces funding from public schools and gives to parents — who can use as they wish.

Please support this concept and vote no on public school levies or bonds.
