Larry Russell Hansen, 80

Larry Russell Hansen, 80, of Kellogg, Idaho, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Nov. 25, 2023, at his home in Kellogg surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born Nov. 1, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind., a son of the late Nathan and Dorothy Hansen.

Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served two tours of duty during Vietnam. He married Joyce Jerome on Oct. 1, 1966, at The Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The couple raised three sons, Russell, Bob and Nathan. 

Larry worked at the Sunshine Mine, where he had retired after 37-plus years of employment. When he wasn’t down in the mine, Larry enjoyed time outdoors including hunting, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Dickey Hansen. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Hansen of the family home; three sons, Russell (Nicolle) Hansen of Rathdrum, Idaho, Bob (Nancy) Hansen of Smelterville, Idaho, and Nathan Hansen of Rathdrum, Idaho; four grandchildren, Brittany (Jerry) McCarver of Kingston, Idaho, Jason (Kyla) Hansen of Smelterville, Idaho, and Josie and Katie Hansen both of Rathdrum, Idaho; four great-grandchildren, Lilly Hansen, Rylee Hansen and twins Maverick and Braxton McCarver; Carson Brayden and Teagan McCarver; two brothers, Tom and Mike Hansen; a sister, Patricia Abrams. Larry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. 

Graveside services with military honors will be held Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
