PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert, Coeur d'Alene boys, girls triumph at Moscow tourney

GOLF

MOSCOW — Trey Lambert of Lake City won the boys individual title, and Coeur d’Alene captured the boys and girls team titles Monday at the Moscow Invitational at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

Lambert, a freshman, shot an even-par 72. He started out 5-over after five holes, including a tee shot out of bounds on the par-5 third.

“He’d never played the course; I just assumed he had,” Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. “I know he’s played in much bigger environments than Idaho high school golf tournaments (like last week’s PNGA Junior Boys Amateur in Bellingham, Wash., where he reached the quarterfinals), but for a first match as a freshman, to manage a couple bumpy holes early ... I was super impressed with how emotionally stable he was.”

Ben Crabb shot 74 to lead four Coeur d’Alene finishers in the 70s as the Vikings shot 303. Lake City, with Max Hosfeld adding a 75, was second at 324.

“Max was fantastic today too,” Reed said. “It was rainy, and at times really windy.”

Mady Riley shot 83 for the Coeur d’Alene girls, who carded a 350 and won by 17 strokes over Lewiston.

“It was really nice to get out of the smoke and play some golf today,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeffrey Lake said.

Next up is the Lewiston Invitational today, with the boys at Lewiston Country Club and the girls at Bryden Canyon.
