PINEHURST — The PK Lions extravaganza known as Pinehurst Days is this weekend and with a chock-full lineup it promises to be old-fashioned American fun.

Pinehurst Days has more than a half-century’s worth of history to lean into, but this year organizers decided that along with celebrating their small bedroom community, they would honor a number of the people who played a part in weaving that community’s fabric.

“This year's theme is honoring heroes,” Miranda Elam said. “All military, police and first responders are encouraged to walk in the parade and they will be introduced as they walk by the four-way stop (the intersection of Pinehurst’s Division and Main streets). Our heroes will also receive a free breakfast at the Lions breakfast on Saturday morning.”

Pinehurst Days kicks off Friday with an all-day vendor fair near the city’s BMX bike park. This is followed by the annual PK Lions Club steak dinner.

After dinner, Real Life Silver Valley and the Pinehurst Police Department are partnering for an outdoor movie night at the church at 9 p.m.

Pinehurst Days is a unique event in the way that it provides different opportunities across the board for the various organizations that help organize it and participate in the festival. Some groups are able to use the event as a fundraiser for their various causes while the Pinehurst business community benefits from the massive influx of people who make their way into town.

Saturday is where the real meat of the event can be enjoyed.

Saturday features breakfast at the PK Lions Club from 6-10 a.m., the Commancheros Car Show at 7 a.m., the Pinehurst Days Parade at 11 a.m., live music from local musicians Sverwood throughout the afternoon and the burnout competition at 7 p.m.

While all these events are taking place, there will be numerous other activities happening, including the vendor fair, the PK Lions Burger Stand slinging food and a barbecue competition at the Tall Pine.

According to event organizers, the goal is to make sure the festival includes something for everyone and that it remains a family-friendly event.

As has become tradition, Pinehurst Days wrap up on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the BMX Bike Races. Kids of all ages have a chance to compete for numerous prizes in multiple age divisions.

A portion of Division Street will be closed Saturday morning. Drivers are encouraged to use the Dike Road or access the highway at Kingston if they are behind the blocked-off section.

Registration for the parade is at 10 a.m. Saturday. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade is encouraged to — ATVs, cars/trucks, horses, floats, bikes or simply walking is welcome.

Pinehurst Days begins Friday, Aug. 4, and runs through Aug. 6. For more information and a full lineup of events, please visit the PK Lions Facebook page.
