Cd'A LEVY: Loss will be devastating for many students

The well-being of our school district in Coeur d’Alene is in jeopardy on May 16. I’m Ben Murray, an eighth-grade student-athlete that attends Canfield Middle School. If the levy does not pass there would be many students devastated, including myself.

The first reason is honors classes would be minimalized with staff cuts across the school. Honors classes help challenge me and help further my education for high school and college. Taking these classes away will not allow others to be provided with the correct learning for their level of understanding. Boost classes would be reduced with staff cuts which would not allow students to get additional help if needed.

All school sports would be discontinued if the levy is not passed. School sports are one of the best ways to have school spirit and get students involved in sports. Middle school sports could be argued as some of the most crucial times for sports because many kids lose or gain their passion in this three-year period. Not providing school sports could make many lose interest in school, and would bring the overall morale down.

Another problem is larger class sizes. One of the best ways for me to get an understanding of a unit is to ask questions and get additional information from teachers. For many, this extra help is the make or break of the student’s grades. All in all, passing the levy is extremely important for our school district and especially for the happiness level of students.
