COEUR d'ALENE — Just two days after setting a record for high temperature when it hit 90 degrees Tuesday, Coeur d'Alene broke a rain record that had stood more than 100 years.

Climatologist Cliff Harris said that by 5:30 p.m. Thursday, it had rained .62 of an inch at his home on Player Drive and more was falling.

That broke the mark of .59 of an inch for Sept. 29 set in 1909.

That's also more than it rained in the past two and a half months, Harris said, and the first day it rained more than half an inch in Coeur d'Alene since June 15.

"We're just breaking all sorts of records," Harris said.

Despite Thursday's downpour, Harris said to expect sunny skies this weekend with temperatures in the upper 70s.
