POST FALLS — Different season, same results.Coeur d’Alene sophomore Grant Porter shot a 73 to earn medalist honors for the second time in less than five months, leading the Viking boys to the 5A Region 1 championship at The Links onThursday. Senior Luke West (74) and junior Trey Nipp (78) also qualified individually for Coeur d’Alene, which shot 310 as a team to claim the regional title by 20 strokes over Lewiston. It was the Vikings’ fourth straight regional title.
“The boys played through tough conditions today,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Chase Bennett said. “I’m proud of their ability to stay the course and weather the storm.”
The top two teams and four individuals qualified for the state 5A tournament Oct. 7-8 at Teton Lakes Golf Course in Rexburg. Potter was also regional medalist as a freshman in May, when Coeur d’Alene won the regional title. 5A and 4A golf in Idaho is in the first year of a two-year trial run in the fall.
Coeur d’Alene’s girls were second with a 378. Lewiston won the girls title with a 368. Both qualified for state.
“It was really awesome work from our girls today as they fought through some really wet, soggy, cold conditions,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “We are super excited for the opportunity to compete next week for a state trophy.”
Lake City senior Joey Heick qualified for statewith a 93.

Lakeland’s Hanna claims regional title at The Idaho Club
SANDPOINT — Lakeland High senior Brady Hanna shot an 82 to earn medalist honors at the 4A Region 1 tournament at The Idaho Club, advancing to the state tournament Oct. 7-8 at Sage Lakes Golf Course in Idaho Falls.
“It was tough conditions, wet and cold,” Lakeland coach Rick Anderson said. “But everyone’s playing on the same course. Brady was 8-over on the last eight holes and was playing really good golf all 18 today. He just took the philosophy to get to the greens in regulation and not go pin seeking, and just played well today.” Sandpoint’s boys and girls swept regional team titles. Only winning teams advanced to state.
