PREP SOCCER: Priest River outscores 'Jacks

PRIEST RIVER — Lance Hamblin scored a pair of goals for the St. Maries Lumberjacks, who were topped by a hat trick by sophomore Tyler Engelson to lead the Priest River Spartans to a 5-4 win in an Intermountain League match.

The teams combined for six goals in the first 13 minutes.

Senior Zach Engelson had two goals for Priest River, which outshot St. Maries 22-18 and led 4-3 at the half.

“Our boys played well,” St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. “The Engelson brothers were disruptive and Tyler is a really talented player. It was a track meet, that’s for sure.”

St. Maries (1-5-0, 1-5-0) hosts Orofino on Friday.

“We played well and we are continuing to find our game and rhythm,” Post Falls coach John Mueller said. “We’re looking forward to our next match against Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

Teddy Kessler scored both goals for Lewiston on assists from Kyson Barden.

Post Falls (0-5-0, 0-3-0 IEL) travels to Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks dropped to 1-4-0, 0-4-0 in Inland Empire League play with a loss to the Bulldogs at Sunrise Rotary Field.

“We came out with two early goals, but then fell into a coma with our own possession,” Sandpoint coach Tanner French said. “Lakeland played their game, which was kickball, and it disrupted much of the first half.”

Lakeland travels to Moscow on Saturday.

Sandpoint (5-0-2, 4-0-1) visits Lake City today.

“We were able to connect some passes in the second half,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach David Leahy said. “Our two seniors — Oskar and David — were able to get some shots on goal.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-2-1) will face Bonners Ferry on Saturday at The Fields in Post Falls.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Elliotte Kortus had a hat trick and two assists for the Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League win over the Bulldogs at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Seniors Georgia Whitehead and Delaney Moczon had two goals each for Lake City (6-0-0, 5-0-0 IEL).

“Sandpoint came out with a lot of energy in the first 15 minutes and it took us a while to play our way into the game,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We had good spurts of energy, but Sandpoint worked hard all 80 minutes. All of those goals were earned goals and we were able to put some shots away.”

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Monday.
