Honoring our veterans

Local communities host celebratory events across the Panhandle to honor the 10.5% of Kootenai County residents who are veterans. Businesses, churches, schools and city staff host a broad range of ceremonies for any veterans, or their families, to attend and honor the service of former and current soldiers.

Nov. 5

American Legion Post 154, Northwest Guardian Riders, and the City of Rathdrum’s Veterans Recognition Ceremony

All veterans and their families are invited to a free ceremony to honor veterans.

Doors open at 10 a.m. ceremony starts at 11 a.m. and lunch begins at noon in Shepherd Of The Hills Church at 13541 West Highway 53, Rathdrum.

Nov. 10

Salvation Army Kroc Center’s Veterans Day Celebration

All veterans and their families are invited to a free event featuring a special arrival greeting by Youth Pathfinder Academy, reading of "Preamble" to The Declaration of Independence, a performance by CYT, singing of Star Spangled Banner, live music by Cd’A Brassx5, a sing-along led by Uncle Sam, and complimentary coffee & donuts

10 to 11 a.m. at 1765 West Golf Course Road, Coeur d’Alene.

Summit Christian Academy’s Veterans Day Performance

All veterans and their families are invited to a free special performance dedicated to the invaluable service provided by the military to the nation. With a donation based bake sale before and after.

2:30 p.m. at 5350 North Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.

Nov. 11

City of Hayden’s 16th annual Distinguished Veteran ceremony

• A presentation by Robert Shay to award Harold “Hal” Donahue as the 2022 Distinguished Veteran of the Year. Shay and Steven Nipp will also announce the names on newly installed pavers in the PFC Robert J. Gordon Memorial plaza.

11 a.m. at McIntire Family Park, 8930 North Government Way, Hayden

Mountainview Alternative High’s Flag Raising Ceremony

The Mountainview community will honor veterans with a flag-raising ceremony followed by pancake breakfast at 9 a.m.

8:30 a.m. at 7802 Main St., Rathdrum

Idaho State Veterans Home Dedication ceremony

Governor Brad Little and local dignitaries will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by exclusive and limited tours of the building.

2 p.m. at 590 South Pleasant View Road in Post Falls
