PREP FOOTBALL: Coeur d'Alene's playoff streak halted in rainy Lewiston

| October 22, 2022 1:20 AM

LEWISTON — In a game where the winner qualified for the playoffs and the loser saw its season come to an end, the host Lewiston Bengals jumped out to a 33-0 lead en route to a 40-6 victory over the Coeur d'Alene Vikings in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both schools at Bengal Field on Friday.

Maddix Maciosek scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter for Coeur d’Alene (4-5, 1-2 5A IEL), which will miss the state playoffs for the first time after 13 straight trips.

Coeur d’Alene drove to within the Lewiston red zone late in the first half, but was turned away on downs, keyed by two sacks by Idaho commit James White.

Lewiston (7-2, 2-1) advances to the state playoffs and will play host to Middleton next weekend.

Lewiston’s last win against Coeur d’Alene was in 2016, when the Bengals beat the Vikings 55-51 at Bengal Field.

Senior quarterback Blake Rice threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns for the Badgers at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
