SOCIAL SECURITY INCREASE: Another idea

| October 16, 2022 1:00 AM

Regarding your editorial of Oct. 12: “Finally Some Financial Good News.” True, the cost of living increase will be welcomed by me. But it also will bring the “trust fund” closer to insolvency which is currently projected to be at 2034. The writer suggests if we don’t like the program to donate it to a worthy cause.

How about considering another idea. If younger workers don’t like it, let them invest their retirement funds as they wish. True that will bankrupt the program even sooner but the government is going to have to deal with this huge issue (as well as Medicare) eventually rather than putting off the inevitable. More than likely they will increase the debt burden to taxpayers even more.
