LOAN FORGIVENESS: Don’t make others pay for your choice

Fair to me is paying the debt I promised to pay. There’s no doubt when you’re on the receiving end of a $20,000 handout your perspective is different than someone who is suddenly saddled with your debt. It’s really all about choices. Your choice to better yourself with a college education is commendable, however I shouldn’t be financially responsible for your choice. We paid our sizable student debt without your help, I expect the same of everyone.

Contrary to a skewed perception, corporate greed cannot always be blamed for low wages, especially in the current economic climate. Some companies are still just trying to survive.

I would argue that loan forgiveness is NOT a symptom but rather a half baked temporary solution to a problem created by none other than our federal government. Perhaps you’re not aware of the billions of dollars our federal government pumps into universities across the country every year. Colleges should bear some of the responsibility, as reassigning student debt only exacerbates the real problem of ever increasing tuition. Rather than pass your responsibility on to others, perhaps the government could see fit to either lower or eliminate the interest on your loan.

Another point I’m sure many haven’t considered is the timing of the loan forgiveness program. Joe Biden campaigned on student loan forgiveness and now, conveniently just before the midterms, the wheels are put into motion. Some argue this is all about votes.
