POST FALLS — Trinity Byrne’s 13th kill of the match capped a wild, cancer awareness-fundraising night as the Post Falls Trojans edged the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 13-25, 16-14 in the two schools’ annual Volleyball 4 the Cure match Tuesday night at The Arena at Post Falls.

Kylie Munday totaled 19 kills, 24 assists and 16 digs for Post Falls (22-5, 7-1 Inland Empire League), which remained tied for first in the league with Lake City. Carleen Codd had 29 assists, Lexi Norisada 18 digs, Sam Anderson five blocks, Jenna Sarff three blocks.

“Coeur d’Alene played very well tonight; we had trouble getting through their serve-receive and their defense,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “I was proud of the heart and guts that my team showed to earn a win tonight.”

Madi Symons had 22 kills and 20 digs for Coeur d’Alene (15-8, 3-5 IEL). Paisley Goings had 10 kills and three aces, Bailey Jaworski 36 assists, Elizabeth Hardy 18 assists, Gracie Legg 25 digs, Olivia Naccarato four blocks, Gia Janke three blocks.

Final dollar figures weren’t in yet, but the schools believe roughly $2,500 to $3,000 was raised, thanks in part to many raffle items. This year, funds will go to the cancer support fund through the Kootenai Health Foundation.

Post Falls plays at Lake City on Thursday for the league title and the top seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Coeur d’Alene is home vs. Lewiston on Thursday to wrap up the regular season.

Lake City d.

Lewiston

LEWISTON — Aubrey Stennett had 10 kills, 14 assists and an ace as the visiting Timberwolves swept the Bengals 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 to remain tied for first in the Inland Empire League.

Allie Bowman had 30 digs and five aces for Lake City (16-3, 7-1 IEL). Ella Hosfeld had 17 assists and five kills, Emberlyn Reynolds four kills.

“Great team win tonight,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “The atmosphere in Lewiston is always intense and Katy (Wessels) is really tough to contain at the net, but I am pleased with how we executed our game plan.”

Lake City plays host to Post Falls on Thursday in the IEL and regular season finale for both teams. The winner gets the league title.

Lewiston is 3-9, 2-6.

St. Maries d.

Kellogg

KELLOGG — Taci Watkins had 10 kills and Mia Asbury added eight for the Lumberjacks in a 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11 Central Idaho League win over the Wildcats at Andrew Gymnasium.

"We had to work for our win tonight," St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. "Kellogg was doing a good job of shutting down our hitters and we had to make some adjustments to get around their defense. While we would rather win a match in three, having to go five and be challenged is only going to make us better and be more prepared for the rest of the season if put into that situation again."

“Both teams stayed really aggressive and played smart volleyball all night,” Kellogg coach Stephanie Batchelder said. “Both placed the ball really well. We struggled with our serve-receive and kind of dug ourselves a little bit of a hole.”

Kellogg trailed St. Maries 14-6 in the final set before rallying.

“We pushed back in that fifth set,” Batchelder said. “But when you’ve got to push that far, you can’t make mistakes.”

Abbie Wilks had four aces, Ava Stancil 12 digs, Berkli McGreal 11 digs, Stacie Mitchell two blocks and Lily Daniel 24 assists for St. Maries (12-6, 6-0 CIL), which clinched the top seed to the 2A District 1-2 tournament, and hosts Timberlake on Thursday.

Maddie Cheney had 18 kills, six aces and six blocks, Emily Coe 15 digs and Abby Neff 32 assists for Kellogg (9-5, 4-2), which travels to Grangeville on Friday.

SANDPOINT — Senior Elliotte Kortus scored on an assist from fellow Delaney Moczan in the 78th minute to send the Timberwolves past the Bulldogs in a nonleague match at Memorial Field.

“We played a ball in and Delaney continued a run and kind of surprised their back line,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “She was able to get it over their keeper’s head and Elliotte finished it on the back post.”

Olivia Azzolini scored on an assist from Georgia Whitehead in the 63rd minute for Lake City (12-0-0), which trailed 1-0 at halftime.

“That’s the best I’ve seen Sandpoint play and it took us some time to get into the game,” Ruchti said. “I think at halftime, we made some good mental adjustments and dominated each phase of the second half. Which we didn’t do because Sandpoint had the upper hand in the first half.”
