Echo D. Schuon, 83

| November 30, 2022 1:00 AM

Echo D. Schuon passed away Nov. 12, 2022, at Kootenai Health surrounded by her family. She was 83 years old.

Echo was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Nampa, Idaho. Her parents, Bruce and Mildred "Mickey" Dugal, moved their family to Moyie Springs, Idaho, in 1950. Echo was an only child but was not shy and made many friends throughout her years in grade school and high school. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1956. In 1957, she married Karl "Buck" Turnbull and together they had three boys — Tim, Barry and Tracy Turnbull. Divorced in 1970, Echo continued raising her boys. She worked days at the Bonners Ferry Herald and some nights as a waitress.

In 1981, Echo and her youngest son, Tracy, moved to Coeur d'Alene after the eldest two boys had graduated from high school. Echo worked for electrical material suppliers as a bookkeeper until her retirement. On July 12, 1986, Echo married George Schuon, also of Coeur d'Alene. Echo and George loved nothing more than hosting family and friends at their home in Hayden, which boasted a magnificent yard with a large vegetable garden, dozens of flowering plants and several fruit trees they cared for together. She loved a good party and was happiest when surrounded by her kids, grandkids, family and friends. Gatherings never went without a game of Dominoes, Yahtzee, cards or Aggravation — Echo was competitive! One of her primary love languages was cooking food and feeding people. There was no opportunity to become hungry while at her home, and at times a visitor would be sent home with what appeared to be more food than had been prepared for the meal. She was a supreme hostess with a genuine, heartfelt love for anyone who entered her home. Echo loved children, especially her grandchildren, who called her Nan. She never missed a sporting event, choir or band concert, play or activity they were involved in. Echo was "Nan" to so many more people than were related to her by blood, showing how much she truly loved those around her.

Echo is preceded in death by her husband, George Schuon, her son, Tim, and her parents, Bruce and Mildred Dugal.

Echo is survived by her sons Barry and Tracy (Jinny) Turnbull, her grandchildren Travis Turnbull, Miranda (Ben) Bowen, Randi Turnbull, Dani Bathalter, Hannah (Luke) Unruh, Micah (Ben) Thruman, Chloe (Jacob) Rutherford and Chance Turnbull and her great-grandchild, Blake Turnbull.

No formal service will be held per Echo's wishes. A private gathering in her honor will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Echo can be made to Christian Youth Theater (CYT) North Idaho at www.cytnorthidaho.org/donate.
