PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Waddington paces Lake City in IEL opener

LEWISTON — Junior Avery Waddington scored nine of her game-high 21 points in the third quarter as the Lake City Timberwolves romped past the Lewiston Bengals 79-46 in the Inland Empire League opener for both schools Tuesday night.

Junior Sophia Zufelt hit three 3-pointers and added 16 points for Lake City (4-0). Kamryn Pickford and Sadie Zimmerman chipped in 12 points each for the Timberwolves.

Addison McKarcher led Lewiston (0-4) with 15 points.

Lake City returns to action Dec. 1 at Meridian, the first of three games in three days vs. Boise-area schools.

KELLOGG — The Hawks improved to 2-2 with the nonleague win over the Wildcats (1-2) at Andrews Gymnasium.

LIBERTY LAKE — Rylee Overturf scored 16 points, Symone Pilgrim had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as the Royals beat the Knights at the HUB Sports Center in a nonleague game.

“It was a real battle,” North Idaho Christian coach Jerry Bittner said. “It was speed against speed and both teams played hard. (Lakeside coach) Chris’ (Dohrman) teams always play hard.”

Chelsey Cate had 12 points and nine rebounds and Danica Kelly eight assists and five steals for North Idaho Christian (5-0), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

Arianna Havier-Gorr scored 15 points for Lakeside (1-1), which travels to Clark Fork next Tuesday.
