Lake City High junior defender Taylor Miller and senior forward Georgia Whitehead were named to the all-state 5A girls soccer first team, as voted on by the state’s coaches, were announced recently.

Lake City junior midfielder Connor Jump and Coeur d’Alene senior forward Cooper Prohaska were named to the 5A boys first team. Lake City junior defender Gavin Schoener and sophomore forward Jacob Molina were named to the second team.

Lake City senior forward Elliott Kortus was named to the 5A girls second team.

Sandpoint senior defenders Evan Dickinson and Stirling Roger were named to the 4A boys first team. Junior midfielder Eoin Eddy, sophomore midfielder Henry Barnes and senior midfielder Randy Lane were named to the second team.

Coeur d’Alene Charter senior forward Rebecca Hines was named to the 3A girls first team. Charter junior defender Alexa Shepard was named to the second team and Maddie Daigle, a junior defender, named honorable mention for Coeur d’Alene Charter.

Sandpoint sophomore goalkeeper Lilly Brinkmeier was named to the 4A girls first team. Junior defender Aliya Strock and senior forward Kelsey Cessna were named to the second team for Sandpoint.

Bonners Ferry senior forward Nick Eastman was named to the 3A boys second team.

The all-state soccer teams were chosen by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) and Idaho High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA).

WSU's Henley named finalist for Butkus Award

CHICAGO — Washington State linebacker Daiyan Henley was named a finalist for the 2022 Butkus Award, The Butkus Foundation announced Tuesday.

The Butkus Award is presented annually to the best linebacker in college football.

Henley, a grad transfer from Nevada, enters the week second in the Pac-12 Conference 20 in the country with 102 tackles while his 12 tackles-for-loss are also second-most in the conference. According to Pro Football Focus College, Henley owns the best pass-rush grade among Pac-12 linebackers, second-best overall linebacker defensive grade in the Pac-12 and with the third-best tackling grade by a linebacker in the country.

Earlier this season, Henley was added to the Bednarik Award Watch List, presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football, and was named a quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
