Griffith, a junior, won the 500-yard freestyle at the state 5A championship meet at the West Valley YMCA and Boise Aquatics Center on Nov. 5. “I just knew I needed to be consistent,” Griffith said. “Whether it’s been showing up on time for practice or the way I train, I just wanted to keep doing the same thing I’d been doing. In the finals, I felt kind of slow in the race and it didn’t feel like the greatest. But I trusted myself and my coaches and when I hit the wall, it felt pretty special.”
