KELLOGG — Kelsey Cessna scored 16 points to lead four Sandpoint players into double figures as the Bulldogs beat Bonners Ferry 60-46 in the championship game of the Silver Valley Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Andrews Gymnasium.

Karlie Banks added 15 points, Daylee Driggs 13, Aliya Strock 11 for Sandpoint (2-1), which opened the season with three games in three days, starting Thursday vs. 5A Lake City.

“What we saw over the last three days is that all of our girls stepped up,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said.

Sandpoint scored 19 points in the first quarter, then used a 2-2-1 press on Bonners Ferry.

Markynn Pluid scored 15 points to lead Bonners Ferry, and Asha Abubakari added 12.

“Our girls did a good job at handling Bonners Ferry and not letting them get too close,” Love said. “We have a lot of respect for their program and knew it was going to be a tough game.”

The Bulldogs topped off their win with a fro-yo stop on the way home. It was an unfulfilled promise from last year that carried into this season.

“I promised them that if they got the win they’d get fro-yo,” Love said.

Sandpoint returns to action Dec. 2 at West Valley.
