VETERANS DAY INSERT: Press should be ashamed

I am writing to express my displeasure with the cover photo/artwork of the special Veterans Day insert in the Nov. 11 edition of The Press. The graphic depicts a Ribbon of St. George, a carnation and a SOVIET garrison cap. These are symbols of recognition of Russian/Soviet veterans. At best this is in poor taste, at worst an insult to all of the veterans and active duty members of the U.S. armed forces.

Veterans Day is a UNITED STATES holiday in which we recognize and celebrate the contributions of OUR veterans of all wars, both living and passed. At no time in my 67 years has the United States ever recognized foreign troops in this manner. I am relieved that my father and his three brothers, all World War II combat veterans, are not alive to see this level of disrespect.

Your editorial staff should be ashamed of allowing this sort of mistake to make it to print. In addition, the month of November is misspelled.

I believe The Press owes all of our veterans a FRONT PAGE APOLOGY for this egregious error/oversight/lapse.
