Jim Glaspie, 92

Jim Glaspie, 92 of Post Falls, Idaho, died Nov. 9, 2022, at home after a long battle with cancer. Jim was the ninth born child in a family of 11. Jim was married to Joann for 60 years until her death in 2009. Jim married Betty Kammeyer in 2011. Jim was predeceased by his second-born daughter, Laura.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, two brothers: Bill and Kenneth, his two daughters: Linda and Lorraine, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Jim worked as a hot line mill operator at Kaiser Aluminum until his retirement in 1982. Thereafter, he started a small business with his Kubota tractor doing garden rotovating for many years.

When his daughters think of dad they know that his family and friends were very important in his life. He could always be counted on for good counsel and a cup of coffee. He loved music and played the guitar most of his life. These daughters remember many Glaspie gatherings with instruments played by Jim, with his brothers, nephews and anyone else that wanted to join in. We could count on plenty of music, laughter, joking, food and enthusiastic games of horseshoes! What a great heritage for his family! When these daughters were small, he would often wake us up singing with his guitar at the bedside, “Wake up, wake up,” which may not have been appreciated much then. He could always be counted on to sing a birthday song with his guitar to family and friends. In the past years, he had taught his wife, Betty, to play the dobro and they made a duet on those birthdays and other songs throughout the years.

Jim was also creative and artistic. He learned oil painting in his 50s and painted portraits, floral and landscapes. Many of his family and friends have his pictures hanging in their homes. He taught grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his wife, Betty, how to paint. They spent many companionable hours in the winter painting. Jim loved gardening, he created a park-like yard, which he also enjoyed with Betty. If any family had garden questions, they went to Jim.

Jim was a member of North Country Chapel Post Falls, where he enjoyed the services of his pastor, Bob Davis. Jim's faith in Jesus was very important to him; he believed the gospel of John Chapter 3 verse 16 that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him (Jesus) shall not perish but have everlasting life.” He told this daughter that he was “going home” when he closed his eyes in death. His greatest desire was that all his family and friends would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Memorial services are planned for spring 2023. A niece of Jim's said we should prepare to laugh a lot at that time as most of our memories of Jim are of fun and laughter. We will greatly miss Jim. He lived well and left a legacy of love, optimism and faith in Christ.
