Peter Stephen Johnson, 53, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a battle with kidney cancer. A fundraiser called “For Pete’s Sake” was held July 23, 2022. A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home. A private reception for family and friends will follow at the Pend Oreille Winery.

Pete was born Dec. 7, 1968, in La Jolla, Calif., to Bill and Sandy Johnson. He grew up and attended schools in Southern California. While living in Huntington Beach he married and had a daughter, Sara. In 2001 they moved to Wisconsin for six years. They then moved to Tacoma, where he played endless video games with his Sara and coached her soccer team for three years. They also adopted their beloved German Shepherd, Cort. There he worked for DaVita Kidney Care for 10 years.

After his divorce, Pete met Linda Preston; they lived on Bainbridge Island, Wash., and later moved to Sandpoint in 2017. They were engaged in December 2019 and together they enjoyed listening to local musical artists, playing games, cooking, making future plans and just being together. They had a love that was deep, obvious and admired. He worked for Kootenai Health as a facilities project coordinator.

Pete enjoyed mountain climbing, camping, hiking, movies and reading and learning about anything. He had an incredibly high IQ.

He is survived by his fiancé, Linda Preston of Sandpoint; daughter Sara Johnson of Huntington Beach; parents Bill and Sandy Johnson of Yelm, Wash., and brother Jake Johnson of Yelm, Wash.
