Steak dinner for veterans

| November 3, 2022 1:00 AM

Sweet Lou’s restaurants in Coeur d’Alene, Ponderay and Athol are saluting the troops by offering all current and former members of the U.S. armed forces a free, hand-cut, 6-ounce, USDA choice top sirloin with one side on Veterans Day.

“We always look forward to this day,” said Chad Foust, owner of Sweet Lou’s. “To be able to expand the offering to the Athol community makes it even better.”

The free steak dinner for those who have served our nation has become a tradition of Sweet Lou’s restaurants. Since the restaurant opened in 2011, it has not missed a year, serving more than 4,000 free steaks to local heroes.

“It’s the least we can do to honor those who serve our country,” Foust said. “Our kitchen begins cutting the steaks early in the week. Our managers make sure we are fully staffed out front and it becomes an all hands on deck day from the minute we open.”

In order to be able to offer the free meal, Foust does have to make some limitations. The offer is only good for dine-in customers on Nov. 11 and the veteran must show valid military ID to redeem the steak.

“Our doors open at 11 a.m. at all three of our locations,” Foust said. “We’ll see you then.”

Sweet Lou’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 477272 U.S. 95, Ponderay; Sweet Lou’s Restaurant and Tap House, 601 N. Front St., Coeur d’Alene and Sweet Lou’s Restaurant and Tap House, 6915 E. Athol Crossing Road, Athol. All locations are open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
