Simon, a junior, won the state 4A girls high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches at Dona Larsen Park in Boise on Saturday. "Kenna did an awesome job throughout the year," Lakeland track and field coach Brian Etchison said. "Each meet and each week, we could see her progressing. We challenged her in some different events like running the 400 and the 300 hurdles. I know that was uncomfortable for her, but I also think that discomfort helped lead to the competitive growth that allowed her to go win state."
