NWAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Cardinals knocked out by Everett in consolation round

SPOKANE — Sophomore Addison Ribordy hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the North Idaho deficit to 11-9, but the Cardinals unable to get any closer, falling to the fourth-seeded Everett Trojans in a loser-out game in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex on Friday.

NIC, which beat Chemeketa 14-4 earlier on Friday, finishes 31-17. NIC won the previous two championships in 2018 and 2019.

Reiss McIntyre hit a two-run double, then scored on an error to tie the game at 3-3 for NIC.

Ivane Aholelei hit a three-run home run in the seventh for Everett (34-8), which regained the lead for good in the third inning on a two-run double by Leiloa Bustamante.

Against Chemeketa, Taryn Vanderwiel and Aleskya Batoon drove in three runs each for NIC, with Batoon putting the game away with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh.

Chemeketa finished 14-26.
