PREP ROUNDUP: St. Maries wins state play-in game in baseball

OROFINO — Dillon Holder’s two-run single capped a six-run second inning, and the St. Maries Lumberjacks defeated the New Plymouth Pilgrims 9-4 in a state 2A baseball play-in game Monday at Orofino High.

St. Maries (6-12) advances to state beginning Thursday at Nampa Christian High. The Lumberjacks open vs. Malad (12-6), the District 5 champion, Thursday at 1:30 p.m. PDT.

Shaun Hunter also drove in a pair of runs for St. Maries, which led 9-1 after four innings, and Dylan Larson had an RBI single in that six-run second. Wyatt Holmes and Trace Wicks combined to scatter six hits.

New Plymouth finished 13-15.

MERIDIAN — Coeur d’Alene’s season ended with a loss to Rocky on Saturday in the Idaho High School Lacrosse League State B quarterfinals.

Isaac Putren scored three goals for Coeur d’Alene.
