NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals sweep in regular season finale

WENATCHEE, Wash. — Abbey Brooks allowed four hits over five shutout innings to lead North Idaho College past the Wenatchee Valley Knights 13-0 in the first game of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

Sophomore shortstop Taryn Vanderwiel had a two-run double in the first inning to score Taya Escalante and Kahlea Dumas. Lexy Orien hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Megan Dobrov hit a solo shot in the third for NIC.

In the nightcap, Vanderwiel drove in six runs, including a three-run double in the seventh inning as the Cardinals earned the sweep.

Addison Ribordy had three RBIs for NIC (29-15, 24-8 NWAC), which advances to the conference championship tournament at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex starting Thursday.

Wenatchee Valley finishes 8-31, 6-26.
