ASSESSOR: A telling example
Quote from Mr. Malloy’s letter to the editor states “property taxes are subsidizing vehicle licensing because the state hasn’t updated licensing fees.” It gives the impression that this is Kovacs’ words.
If Kovacs understood how the county collects its vehicle registration fees, he would not have made such an erroneous statement. The portion of the registration fees retained by the county is set by the county. The state of Idaho gives each county the ability to set its own fees.
So even if the state doubles its fees, the county wouldn’t see any increase in its revenue from this source. The County Commissioners have the ability to raise the county’s fees at any time they choose.
Just another example of how out of touch with the processes of the Assessor’s Office Kovacs really is. He virtually knows nothing. I will be voting for Bob Scott.
