SCOTT: Ready for assessor role
In response to John Malloy’s letter.
We worked with Bob Scott and proudly support him. We are retired Assessor’s Office employees with more than 50 years’ experience collectively.
Mr. Kovacs has been in office for two years and has lost 32 employees, six to retirement of which four left early because of him. When the entire staff signs a letter of no confidence, something is wrong! He wants new software which would cost millions of dollars. Wouldn’t it be better to learn how to use the system that is in place, than to spend millions of taxpayer’s dollars to convert to something new and unknown?
There are several different computer systems in use throughout Idaho counties which convert data back and forth to and from the State Tax Commission applications. Maybe Mr. Kovacs should contact some of the Assessor’s in those counties to learn how they do it. There are several who use the same system as Kootenai County, all seem to work just fine. Why hasn’t he done that during his two years in office? Does he just want to throw away hard earned property tax dollars?
It is the Assessor’s job to quantify the costs of vehicle licensing operations and to recommend adjustments to the administrative fee to ensure that those fees cover the costs of operations. Prior Kootenai County Assessor’s managed the vehicle license operations without use of any property tax money. Why can’t Kovacs figure that out? This should be a no brainer!
We support Bob Scott — fresh eyes, yes; Mr. Kovacs’ seem a little foggy!
