| May 4, 2022 1:00 AM

Beloved husband, father and grandfather Victor Edward McDaniel, 80, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away April 12, 2022, of an extended illness.

Vic was born Nov. 19, 1941, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the eldest child of Marie Ettalie (Harmon) McDaniel and Ora Edward McDaniel.

Vic joined the military in 1963 and served in the Army Reserves while also working full time as a miner in both the Sunshine and Bunker mines in the Silver Valley. Vic then went on to work for Potlatch and Calkins Manufacturing in 1974, retiring after 25 years of service when the company closed in 1999.

Vic was married to his wife, Lauretta McDaniel (Prout), for 35 years. Vic and Lauretta shared a love of music, and they attended many concerts over his lifetime. They enjoyed taking long drives in the summer, listening to oldies and country music and stopping in to visit family and friends. Vic had five children and Lauretta’s four children, whom he treated as his own. He was a devoted husband to Lauretta and a loving father to his children. Vic and Lauretta spent many happy years together; he was loved beyond measure, and will be greatly missed.

Vic grew up in a musical family and could play various musical instruments, including the piano he started playing at 3 years old. He had a talent for playing the guitar, and his family has many fond memories of Vic singing and playing songs. Vic had a lot of patience, a great sense of humor, was generous and never hesitated to help someone in need. Vic had an amazing will and whatever he set his mind to, he was determined to get it done. He loved to take long walks with his beloved dog, Chuckie, and did so most every day until his health no longer allowed it. Vic was fond of all that was Mickey Mouse and proudly displayed the gifts given to him over the years. He enjoyed playing pool and bowling in younger years; in fact, his first job was at a bowling alley setting pins. Vic had a passion for fast cars and motorcycles, and the family has many memories of attending weekend races at the speedway. Vic was an avid video game player and grandchildren Derek, Jaime, Michael and Jason all fondly remember playing for hours with their grandfather on his Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox. He also had an extensive vocabulary and enjoyed crosswords, sudoku and playing games on his tablet.

Vic is survived by his dear wife Lauretta McDaniel, children Barbara Willey, Nena Donnenwirth, KariSue (Pete) McNutt, Herschel (Gayle) Bartlett Jr, Sheri (Robert) Fuller, Cindy Morgado, brother Michael (Pam) McDaniel, sisters Dema LaPrelle and Darlene Torres, grandchildren Michael Morgado, Jaime Fuller, Herschel Bartlett III, Derek Bartlett, Jason Henning, Elena Redmond, Forrest Oliver, Naomi Oliver, Kyley Glisson, Ashley Williams, Kody Donnenwirth, Daniel Willey II, Erica Mejia, Carol Smith, Derek Colona and 18 great-grandchildren.

Vic is predeceased by daughters La’Rice Vandaveer, Lisa McDaniel and Teresa Bartlett, both his parents Marie and Ora McDaniel, brother Wayne McDaniel, and two sons in law Daniel Willey Sr. and Gene Donnenwirth Jr.

There will be a celebration of life open house from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. May 5, 2022, at Tullamore Seniors Commons room located at 3782 Carradale, Post Falls, Idaho 83854 for family and friends to gather in remembrance of Vic.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Hospice of North Idaho for its invaluable care and kindness shown to Vic and his family during his last days.
