• BASEBALL

BOISE — Blaze Day hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the season in the first inning as the Lakeland Hawks beat the Emmett Huskies 9-7 in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic on Thursday at Boise High.

Garrett Love hit a two-run double to drive in the first two runs of the game as part of a four-run first for Lakeland.

“I was very pleased with the way we played overall,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “The kids competed all day, worked hard and had fun. We have some things to build on, but it was a good outing for us today.”

Later, Lakeland was held to one hit in an 8-1 loss to the Boise Brave.

“Boise executed very well and pitched great,” Bradbury said. “I still like the way we competed. They just put the bat on the ball, and it seemed like every hit was placed perfectly.”

Lakeland (1-1) plays Ridgevue today at 1 p.m. PDT at Capital High in Boise.
