SPIRIT LAKE — Kelly Wells struck out six over five one-hit innings for the Timberlake Tigers, who used a 10-run first inning to beat the Riverside Rams of Chatteroy, Wash., 14-1 in a nonleague game at Timberlake High on Wednesday.

Andrew Horn had three hits and five RBIs for Timberlake (1-1), which was held to one hit in Tuesday’s opener at Deer Park on Tuesday.

“We got things going early and looked more relaxed,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “We were able to put the ball in play and made them make some plays. We were moving guys around on the bases and did a good job of waiting on a good pitch to hit.”

Wells did not allow a hit until a one-out single in the fourth inning.

“He pitched extremely well,” Johnson said. “We’ve got three or four guys that can throw the ball well and Kenny went out and did exactly what we thought he’d do. When we can be balanced on the mound and at the plate, we’re going to be in good shape.”

Timberlake faces Freeman in Rockford, Wash., on April 6 for a doubleheader.
