ABORTION: One big step back

Gov. Little: You may have already signed the abortion bill. It certainly doesn’t put Idaho onto the map of progress. It puts women’s independence back in time.

Freedom of choice in this matter is preferred by the majority of Americans. You have stood in favor of freedom of choice regarding vaccinations and face masking, businesses making their own decisions about COVID, and more.

This bill is in total opposition to those philosophies. It mandates criminal charges and fines for those who aid or participate. Totally outrageous. It is surprising how the family-loving state of Texas ever allowed this law to be enacted.

Idaho is regarded widely and highly in the ability of its citizens to live unencumbered lives. “Freedom of choice” is the issue — Constitutionally.

Please don’t put us in with those states passing this backward, restrictive law.

Let’s realize there will always be abortions. We cannot stop that. It means returning to illegal and dangerous “back alley” operations.

Better that we should show our reverence for life by helping people with easily obtained contraception, education and family assistance.
