Wood breaks two records

at season-opening invite

LEWISTON — After breaking the school record in a win in the 1,600-meter run earlier in the meet, Post Falls senior Sammie Wood told coach Wade Quesnell she might relax for the 3,200 a little later in the day, at the Lewiston Invitational.

No, not really.

Wood won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 58.90 seconds, then broke the 3,200 mark in 10:49.71.

“She just went out and did her thing,” Quesnell said. “She said she might take it easy in the 3,200, but felt good and just ran really well. To get two school records in the first meet of the year, that’s a pretty great start. She’s put in a lot of work and has been training all year, so she’s earned it.”

The previous 1,600 record was 5:07.99 set by Sydney Shanahan in 2019. Post Falls junior Annastasia Peters held the school record in the 3,200 (11:01.03) set in 2021.

Dalton Wild, Dylan Wolfe, Caleb Streeter, Sheldon Pine, Chase Berg and Donovan Daniels combined for wins in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relay for Post Falls, which finished second with 100 points.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Jacob King won in the 800 and 1,600 to help lead the Vikings to the boys team title with 113.13 points.

Lakeland won the girls team title with 89 points, edging host Lewiston by five points.
