Tribe 'stepping up' for students

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe recently announced it will match $1,000 scholarships donated to the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber Education Committee’s annual scholarship program.

"We are beyond excited about Chief Allan’s challenge and are very grateful that through the Tribe’s contribution we can greatly extend our reach,” said Rocky Owens, committee chair.

The Top Scholars Program recognizes 50 top seniors from Coeur d’Alene area high schools. Each year, local businesses members sign up to provide $1,000 scholarships that are awarded to high school seniors for post-secondary education.

The offer to match every $1,000 scholarship donated, which will more than double the number of students who will receive scholarships.

“Education has always been a top priority for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, and in these uncertain times it is even more critical to support our students," Chief Allan, Tribe chairman, said. "That is why the Tribe is stepping up and challenging the business community to join us in supporting our students.”

Scholarships will be awarded at the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber’s annual Top Scholars Upbeat Breakfast scheduled April 13 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Students and their parents will have the opportunity to meet business leaders and hear from an inspirational speaker.

"Through their generosity, our business community will be able to make an even bigger impact in achieving our community’s educational goals.”

Businesses who have already signed up to fund a $1,000 scholarship this year include Avista Utilities, Axis Spine, D.A. Davidson, Express Employee Benefits, Global Credit Union, Idaho Central Credit Union, Intermax Networks, J-U-B, STRATA and Welch Comer Engineers

Mountain West Bank, North Idaho Higher Education, Northwest Specialty Hospital, Numerica, Parker Subaru, Parker Toyota, Parkwood Business Properties, STCU and Thorco Electric, Inc.

Graduating seniors at Coeur d’Alene, Lake City, Venture and Lakeside high schools, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, Kootenai Bridge Academy and children of CDA Regional Chamber members are encouraged to apply for a scholarship by March 24.
