HIGH RISE: Hopeful for whom?
This is in response to the high rise on Third and Front.
Jon Ingalls said “a project that has more people living and working downtown makes a level of success and vibrancy.” Now please tell me what multi-million dollar resident living in these condos will be “working downtown?” Is this a joke?
Finding employees to work more service jobs for the wealthy residents of these condos will add to the already challenging workforce housing situation. Is there a plan to set aside and subsidize a number of these condos for those who need a place to live but cannot afford it? Can we at least be honest in saying this is a high rise that will be filled with second homeowners and/or high income residents?
And will you continue to fill the streets with tall structures that block the sunshine and light for people shopping/eating/strolling in what is becoming a “used to be” beautiful downtown? Where will it end?
Of course it won’t. Money and power have been driving the bus in Coeur d’Alene for years. Oh, they say the right thing, sounding desperate to help solve the housing problems. Some even start organizations to figure it out. The truth is pretty clear.
And, just in case you didn’t notice, enough money is spent on art for a PARKING GARAGE to support at least two local households. It’s a free country. Build what you want. But please stop pretending to care about the average person.
