NIC BASKETBALL: Balanced Cardinals get past Spokane

• MEN'S BASKETBALL

SPOKANE — Jalen Skalskiy, a freshman from Lakeland High, had 16 points, 16 rebounds and five assists for North Idaho College in a 74-63 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Spokane Falls on Saturday.

All five starters for NIC scored in double figures as the Cardinals outscored the Bigfoot 42-29 in the second half.

Julius Mims had 19 points and nine rebounds, Cooper DeWitt 13 points and five rebounds and both Daniel Santana and Taden King had 10 each.

NIC outrebounded Spokane 44-30 and held the home team to 23 of 68 shooting.

Jaron Williams had 17 points and six assists for Spokane (15-11, 8-7 NWAC).

NIC (19-7, 13-2) concludes the season at Big Bend on Wednesday.

SPOKANE — The Cardinals remained in control of their own playoff destiny despite a Northwest Athletic Conference loss to the Bigfoot at Spokane Falls.

NIC (13-10, 8-7 NWAC) can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Region with a win at Big Bend on Wednesday. Spokane (13-9, 11-4) already secured a spot in the conference championships.

Payton Hagy scored 11 points for NIC, which finished 14 of 47 shooting.

Dejah Wilson, a sophomore from Lake City High, had five rebounds and two points for Spokane.
