HIGH RISE: ‘Benefit’ in doubt
The city’s Design Review Commission is all in favor of the proposed 18-floor development which will be home to 60 condos. It comes complete with fitness center, clubhouse and golf simulator.
Design Commissioner Jon Ingalls says a project that has more people living and working downtown makes it a success. Really?
A large number of people working downtown are hospitality workers. 2019 Department of Labor reported 7,820 food service employees with average hourly wage of $11.40. This does not include all of the hospitality related employees in town.
How many of these folks can afford to purchase a condo that is certain to have a price tag of $1 million and up.
I think we need to look at the actual benefit this project will bring to the citizens who already live here.
