North Idaho College choirs are performing their first concert of the year on Tuesday.

NIC Cardinal Chorale and NIC Chamber Singers will present “Of Dreamers and Dreams,” at 7:30 p.m. in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on the college’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene.

This concert is free and open to the public.

“After a challenging couple of years, it is important to remember that the human spirit can be uplifted with the power of our dreams and hopes,” director and NIC professor Max Mendez said. “Additionally, with so much division in today’s world, music can be a strong source of healing where we can all connect. I wanted the choirs to celebrate these ideals in song.”

“Of Dreamers and Dreams” will celebrate the beauty and optimism of the human spirit through the music and poetry of W.A. Mozart, John Tavener, Lodovico Viadana, Eric Whitacre, William Blake, Langston Hughes and many others.

The NIC Cardinal Choral and Chamber Singers will join forces at the beginning and end of the concert.

Mendez is in his 17th year as Director of Choirs at North Idaho College. Under his direction, NIC choirs have traveled to Mexico City, San Francisco and New York City to perform concerts. In addition to choirs, Mendez also directs Cardinal Voices, NIC’s Commercial Music ensemble.
