ART: Begging to differ

In reference to “Seed of Life” in the Local section of Saturday’s edition.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

When I saw the small sign over the picture of the parking lot that read “City OKs $11,000 price increase for 4th Street garage work,” I was shocked. But it wasn’t until I saw the image of the “art” in question, and read the entire article that I had a heart attack!

The total cost for the “art” will be $86,000 after the approved increase. Two thoughts come to mind:

1) if City Council saw the proposed art and deemed it worthy of paying the artist $75,000, why then increase the payment of the art by $11,000?

2) why is it that once again, a large and expensive “art” project goes to someone who is not a Coeur d’Alene, let alone an Idaho, native/resident?
