PRIMARY: It’s all about the party

| March 2, 2022 1:00 AM

Judging by the various articles carried by the local press it appears to me that there is considerable confusion as to the purpose of a primary election.

The primary election is where the Party chooses their candidates for the general election. Those who vote in the primary are voting for the one or ones they want to represent their party in the general election held in November.

To allow Democrats, Constitution Party, or Unaffiliated to vote in the Republican primary would be like allowing the Russian diplomat to represent the United States at the United Nations.

If people want to vote in the Republican Primary they need to be registered as Republicans. In the past, many Democrats crossed over and voted for the weaker Republican candidate so their candidate could run against them in the general election.

There are many reasons for not wanting to be a Republican but still vote for the Republican candidate. The best is to consider the Republican Platform and register as a Republican so you can support the person who most nearly supports the platform. Vote for the one who truly supports the Constitution.
