ROE V. WADE: Make it fair; expand child support

| June 29, 2022 1:00 AM

I read with sadness the news about the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. I was equally saddened by the comments made by readers who seemed so gleeful or hateful regarding the decision. Those spouting comments such as “…move to another state, live in a state that aligns with your beliefs, Idaho is pro life all the way!” is appalling.

I then expect each one of these individuals, and all the other pro-lifers, to line up at DHHS beginning Monday, and fill out applications to adopt the 1,800 children on the roles in foster care. I then expect them all to support all legislation and tax increases to support the health services, financial and food assistance, counseling and treatment, and family planning that the governor is calling for.

I also think that expanding child support to begin at fetal heart beat and include maternal health care should also be mandatory. If a woman must carry a child, then a father must be responsible when life begins.

Let’s make this be truly fair and just.
