REPUBLIC: U.S. is constitutional and democratic

| June 26, 2022 1:00 AM

In his letter to the editor, June 24, Jim Hollingsworth confuses the names of existing political parties with forms of government. There are various “republics” including socialist republics (U.S.S.R). To the point, the United States is correctly described as a “Constitutional Republic” and often as a “Democratic Republic” which recognizes that this representative form of government (“Republic”) has its representatives chosen by the people (Greek, “demos”). Hence, “democratic” is used as an adjective and not as a noun.
