IRONMAN: Gookin is right

I have to agree with Councilman Dan Gookin’s common sense point of view regarding the Ironman Triathlon being held in our city. It’s owned by a foreign-based, for-profit company. I volunteered once in 2003, and have also watched the race. However, aside from the financial benefit to the business community, the race is a major inconvenience to most of us.

Our city is acclaimed for its beautiful race course setting and so I say, “Flip the Switch.” If our city is so great for an all-day event, maybe they should pay the city for the PRIVILEGE of getting to hold their event here. Just sayin’.
